London Moving From Orange to Red

December 11, 2020

Earlier today, the Ontario government announced the Middlesex-London Health Unit region is moving from the restrict (orange) level to the control (red) level of the province’s COVID-19 response framework, effective Monday, December 14, 2020.

What does this mean for our students living in residence?

All residences remain open. We are scheduled to close at 12 noon Tuesday, December 22 for the winter break, and reopen at 12 noon Sunday, January 10, 2021. Students who have had their request for a winter stay approved can continue to stay in residence during the holiday break.

Residence dining hall serveries remain open.

Residence dining hall seating areas are limited to a maximum of 10 people starting Monday morning, as per the government directive. Students can either enjoy their meals at one of the limited seats in the dining hall, or take their food back to their rooms.

All residence study halls will remain open.

Students are asked to dramatically reduce their contacts to only 1-2 people prior to returning home for the holidays.

Common spaces (i.e. floor lounges, study rooms) that are currently open may see revised capacities, to a limit of 5 people at maximum.

Take care of yourselves, each other, and our community.

With cases on the rise in the city and across the province, we ask all students to continue following health and safety guidelines: remain two metres apart from each other, wear a face covering when you are not in your bedroom, and wash your hands regularly. Each student is allowed only one additional residence student from their same building in their bedroom/suite.

Behaviour that does not align with provincial health & safety guidelines could result in referrals to the Code of Student Conduct, and Residence Contract sanctions including probation, suspension, and being evicted from residence.

As you are studying for your final exams, if you need any support, feel free to reach out to your Academic & Leadership Programmer or call your front desk. If you experience any COVID-19 symptoms, we ask that you notify the Housing Leader on Call at 519-495-3980 and we will ensure you get the support required.

Thank you for doing your part to protect each other. Best of luck with your final exams.
