Outbreak Declaration at Elgin Hall

March 30, 2021

The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) has confirmed seven positive cases of COVID-19 in Elgin Hall over the past few days. They have declared this an outbreak.

The University is collaborating with the MLHU on contact tracing and is supporting students who require quarantining and testing. All positive cases are moved immediately outside of residence for isolation. If you are considered a close contact to one of the positive cases, the MLHU will be communicating with you directly.

The MLHU has directed the University to do some targeted, investigative testing in some communities. Western's Student Health Services staff will be visiting the building later today, and Housing staff are connecting with these students directly with more detailed instructions.

What does this mean for you?

You are still able to leave your room, access the dining hall, attend classes, and move about campus.

Please self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms. If you develop symptoms, please stay in your room and contact the Housing Leader on Call 24/7 at 519-495-3980. The University operates a COVID-19 Testing Centre on campus for our community.

In times of uncertainty, people may experience heightened levels of anxiety. Please know we are here to help and do not hesitate to reach out to Residence Counselling at needtotalk@uwo.ca. We also want to assure you that students who test positive for COVID-19 do not face any negative repercussions or consequences.

If you have any questions, please contact us at residencelife@uwo.ca or the Elgin Hall front desk at 519-661-4268. Additional COVID-19 resources for the campus community can be found on Western’s COVID-19 website and on the MLHU’s website.

We know this may be concerning for you. Please be assured we will support you through this. Take care.
