3-Layer Masks Distributed in Residence
March 31, 2021
As the Middlesex-London region moves from orange to red in the face of rising case counts, and variants of concern make up more than half of new COVID-19 cases in Ontario, Western is implementing additional precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
Everyone on campus is now required to wear three-layer non-medical masks, rather than cloth masks, indoors and in the presence of others.
In residence, we are providing each student with a package of 50 disposable three-layer masks, available for pickup at your front desk. Please note the purple Western reusable face coverings, distributed at the beginning of the school year when you moved in, only have two layers of washable fabric.
Please replace your disposable mask with a new one as soon as it gets damp. We anticipate each three-layer mask will last for about a day, depending on amount of use. You can dispose of used masks in the garbage. If you run out of your initial supply, the front desk will provide you with another package.
As we continue to fight against the spread of the COVID-19 virus and protect our community, please remain vigilant and follow the health and safety protocols in residence:
- Interact in person with only one other individual – either a roommate/suitemate or a person from your floor
- Wear your three-layer mask
- Wash your hands
- Practice physical distancing
- Monitor for COVID-19 symptoms, and get tested at the Western COVID-19 testing centre
The Middlesex-London Health Unit is also asking students to limit visits home until the end of the semester.
Stay safe. We will get through this together.
