Welcome Back From Thanksgiving Break
October 12, 2020
Hope you had a relaxing and happy Thanksgiving weekend. We hope that for some of you, you had a chance to share a meal with loved ones and family you haven’t seen since move-in day. For others, we hope you had a quiet weekend in residence and had a chance to catch up on some school work and begin preparing for your upcoming midterms.
The University released a statement yesterday, indicating that the Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) has declared a COVID-19 outbreak in London Hall Residence. The University is collaborating with the MLHU on contact tracing and is supporting students who need to get tested and quarantine. Specific information and instructions have been sent to students impacted by this news. The Health Unit is also communicating directly with those students that are considered close contacts to the positive cases to provide further instructions.
Here are a few health and safety reminders:
Due to some students having returned home for the long weekend, the Health Unit has pointed out that we are now having to “re-establish our households” upon their return to residence. Please take extra caution and follow all the proper safety measures to protect yourself and those around you: physically distancing two metres from others, wearing face coverings, and washing your hands regularly. Remember to limit contact to your roommates and a maximum of one or two additional residents from your same building.
If you happened to leave London for the long weekend, please self-monitor for symptoms. If you are experiencing any COVID-19 related symptoms(mild or severe), please report these to Housing immediately by contacting the Leader on Call at 519-495-3980. This number is available 24/7, and a University professional will ensure you get the support you require.
Please note that Western students can get tested on campus for COVID-19 without appointment if you are experiencing symptoms. The Western COVID-19 Testing Centre will reopen tomorrow Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. Check out current opening hours and additional information.
To support your upcoming midterms, additional study space can be booked in any of Western’s libraries, if you’re looking for a change of scenery.
The University will support all students through this time, so please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need some assistance.
Take care of yourself, and each other.
