Meal Plan Living in residence means eating on your terms—whatever you're craving, at any of our eight dining halls, whenever they are open. Our dining halls use a weight-based model, so you only pay for what's actually on your plate. Your meal plan works on a declining balance. Every time you grab food, just swipe your ONECard at the cashier and the purchase comes off your food credit balance. Whether your plan covers all your meals for the year depends on your eating habits and how you manage your spending. So a little budgeting goes a long way. Top-up Meal Plan Make your meal plan last longerYou're in charge of your food budget, so eat what you want and when you want. If your balance is dropping faster than expected, a few small habits can make a big difference: Eat in the dining hall as often as you can—prices are discounted and tax-free. Take what you'll actually eat. Leaving food behind is money left on the tray. Check your balance regularly so you're not caught off guard. If something looks off with your balance, flag it with the cashier right away. Note: Your ONECard is yours alone. Sharing it or using someone else's is considered theft, no matter the reason. How the dining hall food is pricedPrices in dining halls reflect the real cost of food — ingredients, freight, seasonal changes and everyday items like condiments and waste. Other costs like labour, utilities and capital improvements are already covered through the separate overhead and capital improvement fee. This is why dining hall prices are lower than what you’d pay at a campus eatery. Put simply: the more meals you eat here instead of spending elsewhere on campus, the further your plan goes. F.A.QHow does the meal plan work?Your Western ONECard is your meal plan card, student ID and key to campus services. At the beginning of the school year, your card is loaded with meal plan credit and works on a declining balance system. You simply swipe your ONECard when making a purchase and the cost is deducted from your balance. In residence dining, most meals are priced by the weight of your plate, giving you flexibility and control over how much you spend each visit.Any unused funds at the end of your first year carry over into a Campus Meal Plan. You can also top up your meal plan online if needed. What happens if I lose my ONECard? If your Western ONECard is lost or stolen:Visit a residence dining hall as soon as possible to place a hold on your meal plan. Supporting documentation is required. If no specific placement is needed, you can self-identify your dietary needs during the Residence Onboarding Process in late July. Priority allergens are clearly identified at point of purchase to help guide your choices.More information is available on the Nutrition website.
