Our Team

Living on campus makes it easy to make lifelong friends, find academic support and adjust to being in university. You will be living in an environment where you’ll grow as an individual, but it’s a big step, so it’s understandable if you’re a little nervous. Don’t worry! There are so many team members here to help and support you through your journey.

Residence Education Advisor

Residence Education Advisors (REAs) live off campus and work with Student Experience, the International and Exchange Student Centre, Residence Staff, Residence and Faculty Sophs, student volunteers, and Residents' Councils to create a community in residence that supports students' academic success and leadership development. They act as a resource for academic support and leadership involvement, providing opportunities for student engagement in residence and on campus. This role is similar to the past Academic Leadership Programmer (ALP) position.

Dining Hall Staff

Staff in our Dining Halls are the friendly faces that greet, serve, cook and cash out residents and Housing staff daily. They work hard to welcome all guests, maintain food safety procedures, provide catering to the residence community, and they will also host special residence dining themed dinners for all to enjoy.

Facilities Management Staff

Western’s Facilities Management staff work to maintain a clean and safe living environment. They’re also responsible for repairs and maintenance work. Do you need something repaired? Go to your front desk to make a maintenance request with Facilities Management.

Front Desk Staff

Residence Secretaries, Assistants, and Clerks look after the front desk with the support of the Residence Operations team. They handle administrative functions, call for emergency assistance when needed, answer phone calls, take maintenance requests, and coordinate mail distribution. They also dispatch on-call Dons to address student concerns. Support is always just a call away, day or night.

Nutrition Services

Do you need advice on healthy eating in residence? Do you have a food intolerance or allergy? Nutrition Services can help. Find information about healthy eating on campus and connect with our Registered Dietitian, Tegwyn Mosher.

Office of Residence Education and Programs (OREP)

The OREP team make it easy for you to stay engaged with your residence and campus communities. They provide residents with social, academic, and leadership programs that make it easier to adjust to university life, build connections with other students, and achieve personal growth. Learning happens outside of the classroom too and is just as important. These programs and events help you build the kinds of social and leadership skills that employers are looking for!

Residence Counselling

Residence Counselling offers free counselling services to students who live in Main Campus Residences. Sharing what you are experiencing with a counsellor can be helpful in terms of gaining a new perspective and learning new problem-solving skills. Feeling stressed out? Lacking motivation? Missing your family? Struggling to make friends? Having relationship problems? Anything we missed? If you need to talk, Residence Counselling is here to listen and help! We provide short-term confidential counselling to help students manage a variety of mental/emotional challenges and promote healthy living. Learn more about Residence Counselling.

Residence Dons

Under the direction of the Residence Life Coordinator, Dons are upper-year students who support each residence building. These Residence Staff will get to know you and the other students living on your floor. Together, they’ll help everyone build a positive living environment. They’ll help you meet others, answer questions, host events, assist you with problems and uphold residence policies as well as your Residence Contract.

Residence Life Coordinators

Residence Life Coordinators have extensive residence life experience and training. All Residence Life Coordinators are full-time employees of the University who live and work in the residences. They’re responsible for promoting an atmosphere of academic achievement and community and enhancing student learning outside of the classroom. They oversee the Dons and Community Leaders in your building.

Resident's Councils

Residents' Councils develop and maintain self-government while providing programming to build a positive community. They represent residents’ needs and interests by providing input on residence issues and acting as a liaison with other student councils. In the fall, each Council will host elections for floor representatives or junior commissioners, which is a great way to get involved in your building community.

Residents' Council

Residence Sophs are upper-year student volunteers who welcome first-year students to Western and serve as leaders and mentors throughout the year. Sophs work with Residence Staff to build your floor into a community and enhance your residence experience.

Western Apartments Team

Community Development Coordinator (CDC)

The Community Development Coordinator helps provide support and community building activities to Platt’s Lane Estates and University Apartments. They organize programs designed to support undergraduate, graduate and international students as well as their families who are living in our community.  The CDC helps provide regular updates from administration.  The CDC also organizes the Platt’s Lane Estates Tenant’s Council which is designed to advocate on behalf of the students living in the community and plan events that meet the needs of all residents.

Rental Office Staff

Our two rental offices at Platt’s Lane Estates and Bayfield Hall are open daily to meet the needs of our tenants. Our team of Rental Clerks and our Western Apartments Coordinator can assist you with viewing apartments, understanding your lease, signing a lease, taking rent payments and helping in the event that something goes wrong. The Rental Office staff work closely with our facilities maintenance team to ensure our apartments, townhouses and grounds are clean and safe for our tenants.
