Waste Reduction Week

All Day (pop-up booths from Noon-2 p.m. on October 17 & 20)

Did you know Western's waste diversion rate is 50%? That means half of our waste is sorted into recycling and organics, rather than landfills... but we need your help to make it even better.
You can tackle the climate crisis during our Waste Reduction Week, all while having fun! Daily challenges and activities will be available on our social media to teach us how we can make a difference.
A campus-wide competition will see which residence can reduce their waste the most – will it be yours?
With both individual prizes and a building-wide grand prize to win, you don’t want to miss out!

The FreeStore - Organized by Housing’s Sustainability Committee, the FreeStore is an upcycling program that makes gently used household or academic items available to incoming students at no cost! At the end of each term, the donations are collected from students who are moving out, including items such as dining ware, pots/pans, kettles, small appliances, laundry baskets, and binders. These items are checked for quality and overall condition, then cleaned or sanitized prior to being sold.

You never know what you might find!
