Garbage Disposal

Effective waste and recycling management is a shared responsibility in residence. Students can help in the following ways:

  • If you notice an issue or area of concern, report it to your Front Desk.

  • Sort your waste and dispose of it in the appropriate locations.

  • Reduce landfill waste by properly sorting recyclables and taking them to the designated recycle drop-off location in your building.

  • Do not remove reusable dishes or cutlery from the dining hall or dispose of them in waste containers.

  • You can pick up garbage and recycling bags from the front desk, if needed.

Waste Disposal Instructions

Please follow the instructions below to dispose of garbage or recyclables properly and help support a sustainable residence community.

For students living in buildings with garbage chutes please remember to:

  • Secure your garbage in a bag before placing it in the chute.

  • The garbage bag should fit easily into the chute. Avoid jamming the chute by not forcing in oversized bags. Dispose of garbage regularly to keep bags small.

  • Never place glass, especially broken glass, in garbage bags.

  • Drain liquid waste into a sink or toilet before disposal.

  • Break down and flatten boxes before placing them in the recycling bin.
